At the heart of our work is a commitment to delivering:

Quality work

Exceptional customer satisfaction

Meaningful improvements in sustainability

Outstanding value for money

A lasting social legacy

A Story of Sustainability

The concept of sustainability has always been central to our vision and values. Environmental sustainability is the aim of our energy efficiency and decarbonisation work, of course, but we also work hard to ensure greater sustainability in communities, in our workforce and in our own business model.

We do this by:

  • Using public funding and private finance mechanisms to maximise community-wide regeneration
  • Creating jobs and apprenticeships in the neighbourhoods in which we work
  • Providing effective training to maintain skills within the business
  • Building long term partnerships with clients based on shared values and objectives
  • Demonstrating our commitment to quality, safety and best value.

Group Structure

SBS is part of a wider group composed of separate, specialist divisions. Sustainable Energy Services (UK) Ltd works specifically with private homeowners, while our sister company, PermaRock Products Ltd, is a leading designer and manufacturer of external wall insulation and exterior render systems. Importantly, we all share a ‘fabric-first’ approach to energy efficiency and sustainability in building.

Leadership and Teamwork

We are led by a senior management team with many decades of experience in the fields of social housing, decarbonisation and energy efficiency. We have also built up highly experienced in-house teams that include site managers, estimators, quantity surveyors, training specialists, resident liaison managers and a raft of other professionals.

A Close-knit Workforce

These teams provide our core strength and expertise, which is bolstered by a large body of directly employed operatives, some of whom started out as apprentices more than 25 years ago. We therefore have a well-established, close-knit workforce that shares a common commitment to quality, best value and customer satisfaction.

Our Senior Management Team

The Sustainable Group as whole is managed led by Derek Horrocks and Gary Lawson, supported by divisional directors and team leaders.

Derek Horrocks

Owner and Chair

As company owner and chair, Derek represents Sustainable Group at the most senior level. Highly experienced and respected in the social housing and energy efficiency sectors, he is a director of the Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (SWIGA) and present chair of the National Insulation Association (NIA). As a representative of these important industry organisations, he regularly represents the industry in dealings with government bodies such the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC). He has helped to shape and inform government policy on a host of matters concerning industry standards, best practice, quality assurance and public funding.

Gary Lawson

Group Commercial Director

As Group Commercial Director, Gary is responsible for managing the company’s continuing growth. He has ultimate responsibility for all our commercial activities. He joined the Group in 2013 and sits on the company’s board of directors. He has extensive experience of delivering major works, particularly large-scale housing refurbishment and energy efficiency projects.

Mike Easdon

Southern Regional Director

Mike joined SBS in 2021, with a remit to lead the growth of our southern division. He had previously been a board director in FTSE 250 organisations specialising in support services, infrastructure and construction. He was also a former vice-chair of the National Insulation Association, where he had responsibility for chairing compliance, scheme development, best practice and marketing working groups. He has close ties with government, industry regulators and UK energy efficiency stakeholders.

We have a policy of continuous improvement and strive constantly to deliver a high-quality service to all our customers. We are fully committed to achieving customer satisfaction and this is reflected in our accreditations and memberships of key industry bodies.
