Central to our business philosophy is the concept of partnership. We seek to build lasting working relationships wherever possible.
We believe that delivering best value requires close and effective collaboration with all stakeholders. To achieve that,
we maintain excellent communications, we work with complete transparency, and we always strive to take a
team-based approach to problem solving.
SBS Culture and Values
Ours is a safety-first culture that places great emphasis on quality. We believe that quality is the key to:
- Maintaining safe, secure environments
- Achieving best value
- Making clients’ budgets go as far as possible
- Yielding the maximum benefits over the lifetime of any project.
On all schemes, we work closely with clients, manufacturers, suppliers and other stakeholders to ensure that we’re applying the best solutions at every stage. This focus on quality is better for the client, better for us and better for residents. It’s an approach that has seen our projects featured in independent government-funded reports and cited as clear examples of industry best practice.

Training and Apprenticeships
As an Investor In People, we are firmly committed to skills development, promoting learning and creating opportunities for staff, subcontractors and residents alike.
Work With Us (Suppliers & Subcontractors)
SBS has a large in-house delivery team. However, we also have a nationwide supply chain network that adds valuable capacity and expertise, wherever it’s necessary. It’s a network of qualified and carefully vetted providers that we’ve built up over many years; suppliers and specialists that can be relied upon to deliver reliably and to the highest standards.
Examples of the many services that they help us to provide include:
- Retrofit Assessment, Coordination and Design
- Consultancy support – e.g. health & safety, environmental audits, training etc.
- Scaffolding and access (including working at height, 18 metres+)
- Gas and electrical services
- Lighting, fire-safety, access and security system design
- Design and manufacture of insulation systems
- Design and manufacture of doors and glazing systems
- Design and manufacture of microgeneration systems
- Supply of general building materials
Supplier Requirements
We require that all subcontractors and suppliers that work with us must adhere to our policies, procedures and codes of practice. We are careful about safeguarding our reputation, so we make every effort to maintain strict controls on safety, quality, environmental management, customer service and a host of other criteria.
Our vetting procedures cover all of these issues in detail. Approval requires a signed commitment to uphold our standards in every respect. Many of our suppliers are long-standing partners and this shared ethos is now very much engrained. However, we have a defined induction programme for new suppliers that has proven very effective.
New suppliers are most typically recruited when we work in a new community and seek local supply chain partners in order to maximise the local economic impacts of our work. Where required, we will also work with client-nominated supply chain partners, subject to the usual checks on quality, safety and other criteria.
We have developed very effective resident liaison procedures. These have been instrumental in enabling us to deliver complex schemes on (or ahead of) schedule. They have also played a key role in securing exceptionally high customer satisfaction scores.
